Personal goals for FSO
Extended Hardware Support for other Phones
- Support for the Motorola A780 GPS. Interesting as the GPS chip is connected to the BP on this phone and we configure it and get the NMEA data via AT commands. Antonio Ospite already wrote a little C program to dump decode the NMEA stances aout of the AT messages. (http://people.openezx.org/ao2/gps/) #229
- SIRF III GPS support #230
Bits of nice Information Aggregation
- Get time information from GSM cell network, if available, or from GPS. #201
- Set timezone based on the current GPS location
- Aggregate location informations based on GPS location, GSM cell information and Wifi APs in range.
- Routing engine and map widget based on OSM data
GTA02 (Neo Freerunner) in daily use
2008-10-29: From today I'm starting to use my GTA02 with FSO + Zhone for at least one week as my primary phone. Let's see how this turns out. :)
2008-10-30: Getting used to it a bit more. Wake up and resume from incoming call and SMS works fine. Still I have some fear to miss calls.
2008-11-05: Over a week. I still need at least one reboot a day.
Annoying things when using it as a primary phone
Hardware Issues
- Still GSM buzz even with pin4 from the headphone cutted (Thanks Daniel)
Kernel Issues
- To long power button press needed to power the device on
- Phone does not charge with Motorola car and wallcharger
- Suspend via the power button only works 2-3 times. Afterwards device will not suspend. (Not reliable reproduceable)
- WSOD after some hours in suspend. Needs a reboot.
Distro Issues
- After starting tichy only a black screen appears and you are not able to do anything but remove the battery
- Vagalume does not start due to not working audio (Perhaps a problem with my own image)
- Terminal is broken
- TangoGPS, calculator, gpe sketch, gpe gallery need a better gtk theme
- Resume take to long. This should be unnoticeable for the user.
Framework Issues
- Now way to turn off the device as pressing power button goes into suspend and does not allow to turn off the phone
- Time must be set from the commandline
- No autosuspend. Often I forgot to suspend it which reduces my battery lifetime a lot.
- If other side is busy let the audio busy signal through and don't release the call directly
UI Issues
-
Illume icons are to small (FIXME: adjust config) - Zenphone does not refresh when a SMS is sent. Still unsent until you restart Zenphone (Daniel explained me that the problem is that when the GSM resourced is off the modem is still on so we will not get a new signal when turning the reource on again. Mickey knows about it and will work on a fix)
- Screen lock during call init. To cancel a call you sometimes have to un-lock the screen first
-
No name<->number mapping in call screen - Illume gsm module segfault (Provider name shows strange chars so it is very likely a pointer problem)
- Only showing one missed call
-
No name<->number mapping in missed calls screen - No redial functionality
Misc
- Removing the battery resets time (Should the backup battery not care about the right time?)
